UwU Con is back in Mesa, because apparently one costume and one weekend of fandom is never quite enough. The pop-culture event returns to Mesa Convention Center from Friday, Oct. 2, to Sunday, Oct. 4, bringing three days of celebrity appearances, fan panels, cosplay activities and gaming.
This is the second straight year UwU Con has landed at the Mesa venue, and its fifth year overall. That kind of repeat booking usually says more than any polished promo ever could: the event found a home, and it knows exactly what crowd it’s trying to serve.
The guest list leans into the kind of name recognition that gets people planning outfits before they’ve even checked their calendars. Organizers say the event will feature "One Piece" stars, along with the usual mix of convention staples that keep a pop-culture weekend moving from one room to the next.
Co-founder Justin Park says a few things are different for the event’s fifth year. The outdoor activity area will be larger this time, and there’s less emphasis on trading. That shift makes sense for a convention that’s clearly trying to sharpen what it does best instead of trying to be everything to everyone, which is how these things usually end up with a lot of tables and not much else.
The return to Mesa also matters because conventions live or die on momentum. If people had a good time the first time around, they come back. If they didn’t, they stay home and pretend they were busy. UwU Con is now in its second straight year at the Mesa Convention Center, which suggests the event has found enough of an audience to keep the lights on and the cosplay flowing.
For anyone looking for a Halloween-season excuse to lean into the nerdy side of life, this one is pretty straightforward: three days, a familiar venue, celebrity appearances, cosplay activities and gaming. No mystery, no gimmick, just the annual reminder that fandom is a lot more organized than most people’s actual social calendars.
