Southern Arizona is heading into another wet stretch, and the forecast is not exactly trying to be subtle about it. KGUN 9 reports that more heavy rain is expected Wednesday as another disturbance moves over southeastern Arizona and teams up with abundant moisture.
The station says Flood Watches have already been posted, with most of Arizona under the watch and 1 to 2 inches of rain likely. Some areas could see as much as 3 inches of additional rainfall, according to KGUN 9. That is the kind of number that makes everyone start looking at low-water crossings like they personally offended them.
The bigger concern is what happens when that rain lands on ground that is already saturated. KGUN 9 says flooding will be likely, including in the Tucson metro area. That is the part of the forecast that matters most, because once the ground is full, the water has nowhere polite to go.
Temperatures are expected to stay on the mild side, with highs only reaching the mid-80s. KGUN 9 says cloud cover and rain will keep daytime temperatures well below seasonal averages, which is a nice way of saying the sun is being benched for the day.
The station is urging people to pay close attention to the weather through Wednesday night and to remember the old standby: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. It is simple advice, which is usually the best kind when the roads are trying to turn into streams.
