Phoenix got a little breathing room overnight, but not much of a break.
According to AZFamily, late-night and early-morning storms moved through the Valley and brought severe winds and heavy rain to parts of the area. That kind of quick-hit monsoon weather can feel like a reset button for a minute — the air changes, the streets get washed down, and everyone gets a reminder that summer in the desert still has a few surprises left.
But the relief is short-lived. AZFamily says temperatures are expected to peak near 107 degrees in Phoenix this afternoon, and the station is calling it a First Alert Weather Day for extreme heat in the Valley. So while today may not feel quite as punishing as the hottest stretches, the bigger picture hasn’t really changed: the heat is still very much in charge.
There were also a few lingering showers on the west side early this morning, though AZFamily reported they were expected to end and push farther west. That’s the rhythm of this time of year around Phoenix — one round of storms can briefly cool things off, but the desert tends to swing back fast.
For anyone trying to plan the day, that means the usual summer caution still applies. The storms may have offered a little relief, but the return to extreme heat is coming right behind them. In other words: enjoy the break while it lasts, because the Valley’s heat is already lining up for another run.
