Tuesday’s MLB slate brings the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago Cubs together at Chase Field in Phoenix, and FanDuel Research has a tight betting line heading into the game.
According to FanDuel Research, the Diamondbacks are 69-63 and the Cubs are 76-56 entering the matchup on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. The game is scheduled for 9:40 p.m. ET, with coverage on Dbacks.TV and MARQ. That same FanDuel Research listing shows Arizona and Chicago both sitting at -104 on the moneyline, which is about as close as it gets on paper.
The spread is where the market starts to separate the teams a bit more. FanDuel Research lists the Diamondbacks at +1.5 (-192) and the Cubs at -1.5 (+158), while the total is set at 8.5. The over is priced at -105 and the under at -115. For anyone trying to read the tea leaves, that total suggests a game that could settle into a fairly ordinary scoring range rather than turn into a full-on shootout.
The probable pitching matchup is another big part of the story. FanDuel Research lists Brandon Pfaadt for Arizona, with a 7-1 record and a 3.39 ERA, against Clay Holmes for Chicago, who is 5-6 with a 2.49 ERA. The same source says Pfaadt’s team is 12-1-0 against the spread in his starts this season, and that Arizona has won each of the four games he’s started as the moneyline favorite. On the other side, the Cubs are 5-7-0 against the spread in Holmes’ starts, and they’ve gone 1-2 in the three games he’s started as a moneyline underdog.
FanDuel Research also points to a few season-long trends that help frame the matchup. Arizona has gone over the total in 57 of 131 games this season and is 70-61-0 against the spread. Chicago has gone over in 69 of 127 games and is 63-64-0 ATS. The Cubs have also won 21 of the 39 games they’ve played as the moneyline underdog this season, which is one reason this one feels more balanced than the records alone might suggest.
As for a lean, FanDuel Research says numberFire projects a Cubs win at 58%. That doesn’t make this a runaway by any stretch, but it does give Chicago the edge in a game that should have plenty of betting interest from both sides.
