Joe Milton kept making his case Saturday night, and the Dallas Cowboys kept rolling.

According to ESPN’s game recap, Dallas beat the Arizona Cardinals 34-13 in Glendale, Ariz., with Milton throwing two touchdown passes and adding a rushing score. It was the kind of preseason performance that gets attention because it comes with a little bit of everything: arm strength, mobility and enough command to make a depth-chart conversation feel real.

Milton finished 9-of-13 for 176 yards, ESPN reported, and his biggest throws came on a 53-yard touchdown to Jonathan Mingo and a 70-yard strike to Camden Brown that set up Milton’s 1-yard scoring run on the next play. That’s the sort of sequence that can change the tone of a preseason night fast, especially when a team is sorting out roles behind its starter.

Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said the backup quarterback competition is still open, telling ESPN, “This is long from over.” He added that the team is heading back to Frisco and still has more training camp work ahead, while also saying Dallas has “a lot of confidence in Sam as well.” That’s the balancing act in August: one quarterback can shine, but the job isn’t handed out on one good evening.

Dallas had already built a 24-6 halftime lead, and the Cowboys’ ground game helped keep the pressure on. Jaydon Blue ran for 75 yards on 15 carries, giving Dallas another steady piece to lean on while the passing game did the headline work.

On the other side, Arizona got a full half and one series from Gardner Minshew, who completed 19 of 23 passes for 177 yards, per ESPN. The Cardinals also rested most of their starters, just as Dallas did, which is part of the preseason rhythm: evaluate, rotate and keep moving toward the games that count.

There were other notes worth watching, too. Dallas cornerback Shavon Revel intercepted Minshew midway through the first quarter after Simi Fehoko slipped on the route, and the Cowboys’ defense made an early statement. Meanwhile, Sam Howell completed 7 of 10 passes for 65 yards in the second half but also threw an interception in the end zone, another reminder that the No. 2 quarterback race still has room to breathe.

For now, though, the night belonged to Milton. ESPN’s recap makes clear why: he backed up the buzz with production, and in preseason football, that’s often the best way to keep your name in the conversation.
