Stage 12 West has opened in downtown Mesa, and yes, it is doing the modern thing where one place tries to be dinner, a show and a mood all at once. The restaurant and live entertainment venue opened Friday morning near Country Club Drive and Main Street, in the former downtown Mesa home of 12 West Brewing.

The menu leans into the kind of crowd-pleasing lineup that knows exactly what it is doing. Appetizers include spicy chicken wings, loaded nachos and a bruschetta trio. For entrees, guests can choose grilled salmon fillet, a BBQ pulled pork sandwich or vegetarian pasta primavera. If the evening needs a proper finish, there is chocolate lava cake, cheesecake and apple crisp. No mystery boxes, no culinary riddles. Just a straightforward menu that seems built for people who want to eat, stay awhile and maybe not overthink it.

Stage 12 West is also selling the entertainment side of the equation hard. The business says guests can expect high-quality sound and laser displays, and it is celebrating its grand opening with performances on Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday, DJ Dill is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m., followed by Soulitify Band at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, DJ Lexus Ranger is set for 8 p.m., with Sedona Red Band following at 8:30 p.m.

There is also a little extra bait for the curious. Guests visiting Friday evening are getting a sneak peek at Jolie’s Secret Speakeasy, which opens Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. That kind of tease is practically a local tradition at this point: open the main room, hint at the hidden room, and let everybody pretend they are not interested in the hidden room.

The venue does not have its regular business hours listed on its website, though it opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday before the performances. For downtown Mesa, it is another sign that the area keeps adding places designed to keep people around after dinner instead of sending them home like responsible adults.

Stage 12 West is open now, and it is making a pretty clear pitch: come for the meal, stay for the music, and if you are lucky, get a look at the part they have not fully opened yet. That is one way to launch a restaurant. It is also one way to make sure nobody leaves early.
