I’ll say it plainly: the Arizona State Fair food is the part worth showing up for. The Ferris wheel gets the postcard treatment, sure, but food is the thing people remember, and that’s the more honest attraction anyway.
A fair representative, Brianda Martinez, put it simply: “Food is love. Food is everything.” That’s not just cute copy; it’s basically the whole business model of a place where sharing something new to eat can become part of a family tradition. The fair has been held since 1884 and at its current location since 1905, which is a long enough run to prove that people will line up for nostalgia with sugar on top.
This year, the fair has more than 90 vendors serving sugary, crunchy treats, and the fair runs through Nov. 1. That mix of old habit and new flavors is exactly why the fair food matters. It’s not just a snack stop. It’s the social glue.
The fair knows what it is: a place where the food does the heavy lifting and the rest of us pretend we came for the wheel. That’s fine. The wheel can keep spinning. The funnel cake has the better argument.
